Yesterday evening (1st August 2011 at 22:30 BST) imagine my surprise when Guy Waites rang me from Red Admiral, he had left Newport earlier in the day after just 10 days ashore and was heading home. He reported that the wind vane was now working fine and he was doing about 5.5 knots straight along the rhum line. He confirmed that he's heading for the Azores and will spend two or three days there before heading for Cowes in the UK, where Red Admiral will have to be put up for sale and could I find him a berth while the sale process goes ahead.

We agreed to catch up by phone when he makes landfall in the Azores.

I also received the following e-mail from Norm via Heather Guy's sister

From Norm Bailey:
Guy Waites on board Red Admiral departed the Newport Yacht Club at 1500 Local time. As is our custom, a cannon was fired (by George our Dock Master) as Red Admiral passed in front of the Club in recognition of a Sailor's accomplishments and determination.
Red Admiral headed out of the harbour as the music was playing at the Newport Folk Festival/ Ft Adams.
Guy has just sent me a picture of the the R2 as he passed out of Narragansett Bay. I am sure he will enjoy a lovely starboard tack this evening as he heads South of Nantucket and ESE toward the Azores.
It is a beautiful afternoon. Clear skies, SW breeze, 10-12 knots. All the weather forecasts that I have seen are just like today, beautiful. Norm.
