This Season’s Race Programme consists of The Round The Island Race and The National Championships and is open to Class Association Members as well as Non-Members.
The Round The Island Race – Sat 27th June – Cowes
The largest Yacht Race of its kind in the World is now a Class Association Event.
We have (after nearly 50 years of competing) been officially recognised by the Island Sailing Club and permanently incorporated as an Official Class within the main IRC Contest for The Gold Roman Challenge Cup as well as the ISC Contest for The Silver Gilt Challenge Cup.
See the Table of Prizes and Trophies in the RTIR Notice of Race on the website for details of this as well as all other aspects of the Race.
The Event is now open for entries via the ISC website at www.roundtheisland.org.uk . Early Bird reduced rate entry is available for a limited period so go online and Enter Now.
Two New Perpetual Trophies have been commissioned as a result of our new status and have been aptly named in recognition of the Creators of our Beautiful and Bullet-Proof Boats:
- THE JEREMY ROGERS TROPHY – 1st IRC Rating System Contessa 26 on Corrected Time
- THE DAVID SADLER TROPHY – 1st ISC Rating System Contessa 26 on Corrected Time
No block berthing is available for this Event but for the first time you can now book a berth in advance individually at Shepards Wharf Marina. Book Now as these berths will go fast especially as they are also offering an Early Bird discount – see details on www.cowesharbourcommission.co.uk/round_the_island_race_berthing.
We will meet up for drinks on Friday evening at Shepards Wharf Event Centre and on Saturday evening at the Island Sailing Club results Marquee.
The Contessa 26 National Championships – Saturday 5th / Sunday 6th September.
Our National Championships this year are back at Cowes – hosted for the first time under the Burgee of The Island Sailing Club.
The Notice of Race which gives full details of the Weekend’s Racing and Social Functions is on the website (click the links below) as well as the Entry Form and the Event is officially open for entries so don’t leave it to the last minute.
We have Three Classes to cater for differing levels of ability and there is something available for everyone. If your boat is in cruising mode and you haven’t raced much before the Classes are designed so that you will be welcomed in one of the cruising classes and:
- The Racing Class is run under the International IRC Rating System for boats with an IRC rating.
- The Cruiser Class Boats (non IRC) and is run under a Co 26 Class Event Rating which the Class will issue before the Event.
- The White Sails Class is for Cruiser Spec Boats not wishing to use a spinnaker also with a Class Event Rating.
If you are entering the Racing Class please ensure you apply to the IRC Rating Office for a Rating as soon as possible to ensure you have this in good time for the Events. If your boat has not previously had an IRC Rating and you only intend to do one or two of our Events we have arranged for the Rating Office to issue Single Event Ratings offering a substantial saving over an annual rating – for details please go to www.rorcrating.com/22-irc-rating/application/277-new-applications.
We have three Trophies up for grabs:
- THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACING CLASS TROPHY – 1st IRC Rating System Contessa 26
- THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CRUISING CLASS TROPHY – 1st Cruiser Rating System Contessa 26
- THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (Non SPINNAKER) – 1st non spinnaker Class rated Contessa 26
We have a Class block booking for discounted berthing at Shepards Wharf Marina in Cowes but spaces are limited so we need you to Enter Now so that we can ensure you get a berth.
We will have a Welcome Drinks Reception at the Island Sailing Club on Friday evening, three Races on Saturday followed by a Pontoon Party and then Dinner at the ISC, one longer Race on Sunday followed by a Prize Giving at 1600 enabling everyone to get home in plenty of time.
Last year two boats were represented at the Socials who were not racing and treated the event on a Rally basis. There will be room to cater for this in 2015 and as a non racer you will be welcome to join our fellowship in the Island Sailing Club.
This Event is open to all Contessa 26’s even if they are not on our active list so please feel free to invite any owners you may know or meet and please direct them to this web site Our numbers keep building and it would be great to have another record entry for our Class Nationals so please get the date in your diary.
