To continue the rather successful and well supported Association winter and spring zoom programme our next meeting is on 1 April 2021 and is going to be an exciting celebration of the 55th anniversary of the first CO 26 which was launched on 28 April 1966.
Our 2020 / 2021 zoom programme supremo presenter Simon Jollands has worked very hard in preparing a talk on the history of the boat with valued contributions from Fiona Rogers. Live speaker contributors to Simon’s talk are being planned and so far include:
- Fiona
- Tania Aebi, the first American woman and the then youngest person to circumnavigate the globe alone in 1987 at the age of 18 in her CO 26 Varuna.
- Nigel Lang who successfully completed the 1976 OSTAR in Galadriel.
- David Barrie who is Fiona’s brother and who sailed with Richard Clifford in Shamaal II in the Round Britain double handed race in 1974.
- Sebastian Smith the later owner of Shamaal II who cruised the Mediteranian extensively.
- Ross Appleby who won the Gold Roman Bowl in 2018.
Two of these esteemed speakers are joining from the US.
The original time for the meeting was planned for 18.00 with an hour or just over proposed. With the number of contributors who are now joining, we do not want to unduly rush this important meeting and to allow for members to plan earlier supper (should you wish) it will now take place at 1900. To allow for some questions or discussion it will be for approximately one and a half hours.
This is going to be a unique event in the CO 26 calendar and we do hope you will consider joining. If you would like to join please do email us before 30 March. The links will then be sent out on the 31st March.
