RYYC prize winners

RYYC Prizegiving 2010

October brought with it the end of the sailing season and the end of season prize giving dinner at the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club. Held for the first time in the new dining room, the Co26 fleet was well represented and left with an impressive collection of silverware.
Within the class True Blue (Steve Wood & Keith Poole) had things very much her own way in the early part of the year, collecting trophies for no less than 3 separate race series. However, by mid season everyone else  was up to speed, with Tessador (Keith Richardson), Contessa Juliet (Jeff Preece),  Daisy Dog (Steve Travis, Kevin Travis & Andy Scullion) and Corriander (David McKie) taking a series each before the end of the year.

In general handicap racing, only True Blue managed to lift a series of ‘round the cans’ races from the dayboats and modern cruiser/racers, however in longer races it was a different story, with Co26s 1st & 2nd in the coastal series (Contessa Juliet from Anna, sailed by Harry Flemming), and 1st & 2nd in the feeder race for Scarborough Regatta (Juliet again, this time from True Blue).

When the overall standings were calculated, Contessa Juliet had just done enough to pip True Blue for best boat in class, and also won the outstanding achievement award across all classes for her performance in other than RYYC events.

To complete the record, RYYC Regatta Week prizes had been awarded separately, Daisy Dog repeated her impressive double, winning the the Co26 class and best performance overall for the 2nd year in succession.
With 5 different yachts lifting major prizes it has been another great year for the Co26s at the RYYC.
