The weather was "lively"!! but it was a successful gathering. (1) The boats taking part: (see gallery section for all pictures mentioned).
(a) Tish - Geoff Anderson. Sailed singlehanded throughout! The first pic shows Geoff arriving at Wrabness. Quite windy!
(b) Contessa of Tay, (she is the pale blue one, - some good shots of her with her spinnaker up), sailed by Martin Brookes and crew Bill, from the Deben.
(c) Guilietta, sailed by John Castell, also from the Deben, and crewed by Chas. She does not appear much on the pics, for obvious reasons!
(2) The Dinner at the Lord Nelson attended by:
Martin and Bill (Contessa of Tay), Geoff Anderson and Geof Pickard (his boat is in his garden being refitted, so he normally crews for Geoff Anderson), Tim Pank (Wild Poppy), came down from Norwich for the dinner. Unfortunately could not get a crew in time to bring Wild Poppy round from the River Alde / Ore, (very tricky entrance there!).
(3) Conditions: Windy!! Sw on Sat and NW on Sun. Sat probably around F4, and Sun 2 to 3 at first, rising to 6 & 7. Rain overnight, but daytime blessedly dry and sometimes sunny!!
(4) Shorebased "activities": Exploring the boats present, and drinking each others booze on Saturday evening, culminating in a "whiskey nightcap" with seven of us aboard Guilietta, who was dubbed by Geof Pickard as: "the salubrious Contessa"!
Undoubtedly Geoff Anderson is a "master boat handler", with amazing local knowledge, but I understand he works as one of the Harwich Pilots!! It was a pleasure to watch him single handedly working Tish up to windward, (even if this was observed from behind!!).
Martin gave us some good shots on Sunday morning when he flew his chute in very fine fashion down the Orwell and out to sea.
The shots with the Sailing barge in the background were taken inside the Lock, at the entrance to Ipswich Wet Dock. The other shots together were inside the Ipswich Wet Dock marina.
